We recommend a comprehensive professional service at least once per year. This includes cable inspection and tension testing, motor and gearbox lubrication, zinc anode inspection and replacement, electrical connection testing, pulley and sheave inspection, and a full load test. South Florida's saltwater environment accelerates corrosion significantly. Annual service is critical to preventing failures and keeping your factory warranty valid.
Inspect your cables every time you use the lift. Look for broken strands or "bird caging" (strands spreading apart), visible kinks or bends that won't straighten, rust or corrosion staining on the cable surface, and any reduction in cable diameter. If you see any of these signs, don't wait. A cable failure with a boat on the lift causes serious damage. When in doubt, replace them. Cables are a maintenance item, not a lifetime part.
The most common causes are a stripped or slipping gearbox, a broken drive shaft, a failed brake, or a mechanical obstruction. This is different from the motor not running at all, which points to electrical issues. In both cases, don't force it. Running a failing motor without load can cause additional damage. For most electrical and minor mechanical repairs, yes. For cable replacement, motor work, or structural repairs, we typically need to lower the vessel to the water or remove it from the lift entirely. We coordinate this with you during the repair scheduling process and work efficiently to minimize the time your boat is in the water.
If the structural frame is sound and the lift was properly sized for your vessel, most mechanical and electrical components can be economically repaired or replaced, often for a fraction of the cost of a new lift. We evaluate this honestly during diagnosis. If the frame is severely corroded, the lift is undersized for your current vessel, or cumulative repair costs approach replacement cost, we'll tell you and provide a replacement quote for comparison.
